Over the summer I had the opportunity to tour around the country with Survival.  I visited places like Alaska and Montana with unmatched scenery, but what sets Survival Georgia apart is the Southern people.  Being from the South, I love Southern people!   They bring an extra energy to an event that makes it so rewarding.  They also bring an extra drive to succeed that was indispensible in what was to become the longest week of Survival.

The week was packed out!  We had nearly 70 students, so I decided to have 6 teams; this meant that every rotation had to have 6 activities.  Thus we had more teambuilding activities than ever before!  We used almost every obstacle we have ever used in the past and had the opportunity to create some new ones.   At shooting sports, we introduced everyone to a myriad of weaponry (maybe too much) from AK-47’s, to hatchets, to shotguns, to AR-15’s, to silenced 9mm handguns; we had it all!

Having such a packed out week meant that everything took longer and was more exhausting.  At the end of the day, everyone was worn thin and dog-tired. While this at first may sound like a bad thing, I think that this was what set the event apart from the others.  What I believe this event did was force people past where they thought that they could go, and to a point where they were forced to rely on God.  I know that this was true of me.  Because this week was so long and hard,  the teams joined together and were required to rely on each other and on God more than ever.

  1. Daniel, these pictures are absolutely AMAZING! (What camera was all this taken with) And I loved the music in the slideshow…I felt like I was at the Survival right along with everyone. I miss those days…

You have really done such a wonderful job as the director, and I wish we could’ve been there during all these events with you, especially Montana…my heart really felt your loss of such a Godly young man/staffer. I felt so close to you all even though we weren’t there. I hope that incident won’t turn you away from this calling, because you really touch so many hearts every time, mine included, even when we’re not there.

I am praying and without a doubt knowing that God will continue to bless your ministry with these young men and ladies to be our future generation leaders. Thank you for investing your time in them. We love you! THE VOORHEES FAMILY

  2. Yes, what a full week! And what a week for it to be your first time as Program Director! Glad that you were able to rely on God for strength. He definitely proved Himself faithful! You did a great job, Clay!
